Any chance we can get a downloadable version?

(1 edit)

The game doesn't work on my Chromium browser but works okay in Firefox. On Brave, I have to dash to maintain a walking pace and once I reached the dash-jump, progress was impossible,

i really enjoyed playing this nice game.

i dont know if it's made on purpose, but if you just spam the the z and x buttons while pressing up, you basically learn how to fly, that completely broke the game and make you op hahaha. nice game. <3

You do need the bomb jump and grapple hook for it to work though. Until then, just spamming Z and getting giant dashes works good.

I like this a lot! It is kind of annoying, though, how inconsistent the spawning of stuff is. Like, just last run these guys where everywhere, and now I can't find a single one.

Made a video

Fluid and fun, jam-packed with replayability coupled with interesting design and smooth movement and combat, it's easily a game to revisit for a free dozen minutes.
I'd love to see this game with a download version, it'd be a nice game to play locally.

(+1)

Very nice game, I like the different mission options provided for the player that allows a more challenging or easy experience based on how quick you want to go.

(+2)

I love the movement mechanics. They remind me quite a bit of Mega Man X and Zero! I love chaining dashes together and especially dash jumping! Only feedback I have is that it seems like the music doesn't follow the NES limitations accurately, as there seems to be FM synthesis in the Music, something the Genesis was capable of, but not the NES (it has 2 pulse channels, a triangle channel, a noise channel and a DPCM sample channel.) Slashing enemies feels great, and thanks to the forgiving hitboxes and great movement, you can kill most weaker enemies without breaking the pace. So satisfying!

(+1)

Thanks! Mega Man X/Zero's flow of chaining dashes and blasting through weak enemies is exactly what I was going for. And you're right! I am a complete newbie to making music in general, so I didn't try to be NES-accurate with it. I used a handful of Genesis-style instruments to make it easier on myself.

Since the description is not exactly clear, is this a NES game ROM running in an emulator or a computer game made to look like a NES game?

(+1)

Nah, it's not a rom. It only uses the NES aesthetic and controller restrictions (Dpad & 4 buttons).

ah okay

bummer

for some reason the game is slow and I cant even get past the leap area

Dang. Not sure what could be causing that. I'm using Godot 4, perhaps it has some issue with your computer?

(1 edit)

huh, seems like that might've been the case
playing on a different device, and its not slow

I was attracted to pixel art! It was a very fun piece of work.
It's a lot of fun to play with more and more enemies, and as they get stronger and stronger, we also get stronger as we complete missions.
I found it a bit tedious to have to start from the ground again after completing a mission, but it was fun to run all the way down with upgrades such as grappling and bomb jumps to increase maneuverability.
Also, for some reason, when I entered the door to accomplish the last mission, it went dark and got stuck.
When I restarted the game, it started from the beginning, so I gave up crying, meow~!

my playthrough

(+1)

Sorry it crashed! That crash is an issue with the downloadable .exe version. I've since removed that version. Thanks for playing!

(+1)

Thank you very much for your kind attention!
I tried to play it again in the browser version.
This time I tried with only one heart, one bomb jump, and grappling for the ability increase.
It was a very hot battle with tons of enemies coming at me!
It looked like I could attack with no damage if I dropped bombs from above with bomb jumps, but I sealed that battle strategy halfway through because it seemed to be too easy.
But after thinking about it, it might have been fun to challenge the boss with my initial status since I could proceed without taking power-ups, meow~!

Quite fun.  Wish it was longer.

Great metroidvania game. Really awesome.

(+1)

Had a lot of fun playing through this, wouldn't have been able to beat the final boss without the second attack upgrade. Big fan of your other games so it was cool to see you make a non-tactics game

(+1)

Thank you! It felt good to take a break from tactics for a bit.

This was such an amazing game. I really loved the art style, music, sound effects, and the movement. Basically everything.

I got to the mission where I had to get to floor 13 but couldn't find any water so I desperately ran to floor 17 before I died. I had to put the game down at that point lol. Very fun still and I plan on coming back to finish this!

I accidently ran off from the item guy when he was explaining what the grapple hook did so I never got to use it because I didn't know the controls. It would be nice if there was a screen showing your equipment and how to use it. There might already be that and I'm missing it. If so, my apologies!

Again, super awesome work and I'm excited to see where you take this or your other work!

EDIT: I just came back and actually finished the game this time! I didn't really go into detail the first time but I really love the movement in this game. I felt awesome dashing into a jump and then flipping into a double jump. I found it confusing to use the grappling hook but it was nice at times.

I got to the end and ran to the people towards left and the game slowed down and faded to black. I'm not sure what exactly that meant or if it was a bug or anything.

For the third time in this comment, GREAT game and I would love to see if you would think about expanding it.

Thank you! Unfortunately there is no equipment screen. Glad you had the chance to beat it regardless! And don't worry, the ending wasn't bugged, it's just rather abrupt.

So simple an asome! Keep working!

reeeaaal good man, reeeaaal good man

Awesome,godot!

(+1)

It's fun

With some more level variety and upgrades it could be even more addicting, I'd play that game too.

(+1)

nice

(+1)

Absolutely love the gameplay loop and the upgrades! Would definitely play more

(+1)

Awesome game.

(+1)

loved it, very good ideas in it with only a few assets and mechanics. Could beat the tree

(+1)

Really fun little game, I enjoyed this a lot.

(+1)

This ... if this game were about exactly three times longer -- three times the biomes, missions, and three bosses ... I'd have been happy to have paid $49.99 for an NES cartridge of it back in the 80's. This is that promising.

(+1)

Thank you, that's high praise! I've always wanted to make a full game with MMX-style controls like this, so it is tempting. : )

(+1)

Very nice game, I liked it. One thing that I didn't like, though: the "attack" key is Shift, and smashing this key on Windows enables "Sticky key" pop-up, which is annoying. It would be nice to change the "attack" to the other key, at least on Windows. Thanks!

Hey, thank you! Thanks for playing it!

I forgot to remove the Shift keybind. The intended keyboard layout is ZX and arrow keys. Either way I hope to get good enough at Godot that I can add keybind options to future jam games!
